BECOME A MUFON FIELD INVESTIGATOR

GET GOING WITH THE PROCESS OF BECOMING AN MUFON CERTIFIED FIELD INVESTIGATOR!

MUFON Field Investigators are the heart and soul of our organization. To become a MUFON Field Investigator you must be at least 18-years of age, be able to acceptably pass a personal background check, and be willing to execute and agree to a MUFON non-disclosure agreement.

MUFON Canada field investigators are responsible for collecting UFO sighting reports and integrating them into the Case Management System Database (CMS). They may receive UFO reports from their Chief Investigator or directly from witnesses themselves. When a field investigator is assigned to a UFO case, he/she must, contact the witnesses and meet them in person when necessary. Taking pictures of a site, filming interviews with witnesses and collecting samples are some of the tasks that a field investigator would have to do.

MUFON field investigators are therefore not UFO hunters because their main role is to gather information from witnesses to determine the nature of their observation. However, because of the “exotic” nature of the UFO phenomenon, it may happen that investigators are directly involved with sightings or events of a ufological nature themselves. Even though these events are rather rare, the basic field investigator training provides the tools to deal with these situations professionally. It is also because of this training that MUFON Canada investigators can effectively and objectively categorize the cases assigned to them.

In order to provide a solid background for field investigator, it is necessary for them to get the MUFON Field Investigator’s Manual and become familiar with its content. The Field Investigator’s Manual is a 300 pages book detailing different situations called procedures. Every field investigator has to study all of them and pass the test included at the end of the manual.  THE TEST MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 1 YEAR with the score of at least 80%. In the event of a failure, the student is entitled to two further tests, and if he fails all three attempts, he will have a waiting period of six months. After that, he will be able to re-pass the final test and will be certified as an apprentice investigator once this test is successful. The English version of the FIs Manual costs $ 125 USD
